Josh Koehnen, CFP, MsBA

Financial Designs, Ltd.

Josh currently works as a financial and investment advisor representative for clients of Financial Designs, Ltd., a 29-year old financial planning and investment advisory firm near La Jolla, California.  The ability to make good financial choices, communicate complex ideas simply and to keep a watchful eye has placed Josh as overseer of his clients’ investment assets.  Josh and his team provide the design and implementation of financial plans for many of the firm’s clients.  His experience in business and personal financial decision making are brought to bear in developing well thought out approaches in the areas of tax, retirement planning, estate planning and risk management.

Josh Koehnen is a professional whose financial acumen and ability to act decisively were honed by an exemplary educational background.  As an undergraduate, Josh graduated Magna Cum Laude from San Diego State University with a degree in Finance.  A Masters Degree in Finance and Tax Planning further enhanced the detail of his knowledge.  Following his lifelong passion for knowledge, Josh completed all the requirements to become a Certified Financial PlannerTM practitioner; which included a rigorous 10-hour board approved examination and passing an extensive background check.

Josh’s philosophy is built around the basic premises of asset allocation and diversification.  His diverse financial knowledge has been invaluable in developing a portfolio management system which blends advanced risk management techniques with traditional and alternative investment vehicles.  The result for clients of Financial Designs is the opportunity to use an institutional caliber money management program overseen by a well-qualified professional.  Josh is also a licensed real estate broker and a member of the National Association of REALTORS®.  He has a vast array of experience in analyzing a client’s real estate holdings, providing long and short-term strategies for enhancing cash flow and evaluating the various exit strategies available to property owners.

He is a member of the Financial Planning Association of San Diego, the Real Estate Investment Securities Association and a highly valued co-host of The Financial Advisors Radio Program on News Radio 600 KOGO.  Josh is a Registered Securities Representative licensed in CA, OH, AZ, FL, KY, NV and NY with Independent Financial Group LLC, member FINRA/SIPC.  Josh is also licensed to engage in the business of insurance in the State of California.

Josh resides with his wife Chelsea and daughter Kaylie in San Diego and currently stands on the Board of Directors of the San Diego State University Aztec Athletic Foundation.  In his spare time, Josh likes to travel and play golf.
