Buying St Gaudens Gold Coins

Investing in gold is always considered a good option, considering they are the safest form of investment. There might a bit of fluctuations, but they never lose their identity and power. Rarity of gold always makes it a commodity that never loses its demand. Gold coins are also considered a very good way of investment as the price of gold continues to rise.

St Gaudens gold coins were one of the most beautiful gold coins ever made by the US Mint.  St.Gauden was a famous sculptor who also had interest in numismatics. During the 20th, President Roosevelt hired St.Gaudens to design the coinage of America. St.Gaudens made the ever so famous the $20 ‘double eagle  gold coins. The first batch of high relief $20 double eagle gold coins was considered the best piece of art ever made. But after 1907, the coins were made in low relief version as the high relief version made it difficult to stack for bank purposes.

The gold coins were made until 1933, when President Roosevelt stopped the manufacturing of gold coins, and all the coins were confiscated and most melted down. It was illegal to possess gold coins although coin collectors could keep it. Over the years some rare St Gaudens have surfaced and in 2002 a 1933 double eagle surfaced which was auctioned for an overwhelming price of $7,590,020, Making it the most expensive coin in the world.
