The Wealth & Legacy Discussion Group > What About Capital Gain Taxes?

I've read so much regarding capital gain tax rates that I'm completely confused about what the rates are going to do. Are they rates going up for sure?

Hi John,

Sorry, I missed this post until just now. Yes, at this point in time, the Federal capital gain rate will automatically go up to 20% on January 1st, 2011. The rate was reduced by President Bush. However, the legislation had a sunset clause so that the rate automatically goes back up to 20% on 1/1/2011.
